Melvin Sparks & Sax Gordon - Aug 23, 2003 - Ryles - Cambridge, MA photo by Shawn Dos Santos (http://www.myrootdown.com) I'd worked with Melvin a few times at Rudy Van Gelder's studio outside of NYC on CDs for Jimmy McGriff and Ron Levy.  He's always great and a beautiful, positive guy to be around.  I'd already done two gigs this day but when I stopped on the way home to see him with his own group and he asked me to play a set with him I couldn't resist!  My old friend George Pappageorge sounded great on organ and it was also a pleasure to play with drummer Kenwood Dennard.

		John Hammond, Sax Gordon and Marty Richards - April 1996 - Palms Playhouse - Davis, CA photo by Marina Boni John Hammond is always a joy to work with, and it was always fun to return to my hometown and the Palms Playhouse where I saw so many great shows.  When I was young I used to sit outside but I could hear and see in while Etta James, John Lee Hooker, Robert Cray, Phil Woods, Jerry Jeff Walker and many others did their thing.  I worked with John all over the USA, Europe, even in Turkey!

Now we occasionally co-lead a band when our schedules work out.
